Analisis Peran Teman Sebaya terhadap Perilaku Sosial Mahasiswa di Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik (FISIP) Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU)

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of peer groups in shaping students' social behavior at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). Peer groups have a significant influence in shaping and directing students' social behavior, particularly in terms of intimacy, emotional support, and social comparison. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach, where data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation of students involved in various peer groups at FISIP USU. The findings indicate that peer groups play an important role in forming social identity, enhancing self-confidence, and influencing students' social decisions. Furthermore, the intimacy and care provided by peers have been shown to improve students' emotional well-being. However, this study also found that in some cases, the influence of peer groups can be negative, especially when the group encourages behavior that deviates from accepted social norms. The study concludes that close relationships with peers are crucial in the development of students' social behavior and have significant implications for character formation and interpersonal relationships within the campus environment.
