Analysis of Competitiveness and Factors that Influence the Export Volume of Indonesian Cinnamon Powder to Export Destination Countries
Abstract
Indonesia is one of the cinnamon producer and exporter in the
world. Cinnamon powder is the most exported cinnamon derivative commodity.
The phenomenon of decreasing export volume of Indonesian cinnamon powder,
has resulted in a decrease in Indonesia's market share due to increasingly
competitive trade competition. This research aims to analyze the competitiveness
of cinnamon powder and the factors that influence the export volume of
Indonesian cinnamon powder. The analytical methods used in this research are
Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Revealed Symmetric Comparative
Advantage (RSCA), Export Product Dynamics (EPD), X-Model, and panel data
regression. The research results show that Indonesia has strong competitiveness,
with value of RCA more than one and value of RSCA between 0 and 1. The EPD
method shows the position of Rising Star in India, Sweden, Russia, and Estonia.
Lost Opportunity in the United States, Netherlands, Vietnam, and Canada. While
Retreat in France and Australia. The X-Model shows optimistic market
development potential to India, Sweden, Russia, and Estonia. Potential market to
the United States, Netherlands, Vietnam, and Canada. While less potential to
France and Australia. The results of panel data regression show that export
prices, competitor’s export prices, destination country exchange rates,
production, and land area have a significant effect on the export volume of
Indonesian cinnamon powder. Meanwhile, real GDP of the destination country
and the population of the destination country have no significant impact on the
export volume of Indonesian cinnamon powder.
