In the current era of digitalization and the industrial revolution 4.0, hoax
information spreads through social media. For some people and social media
users, it is difficult to distinguish between factual information and hoaxes, causing
people to then get trapped in hoax information. Young people (generation z) are
active users of social media and they are considered vulnerable to being
influenced by hoax information. Young people (generation z) also do not have
adequate knowledge about politics, so young people as the next generation of the
nation need to be given education about politics. The purpose of this study is to
describe the efforts made by the Medan Anti-Hoax Gen Community in educating
young people about politics and preventing hoax information ahead of the 2024
election in Medan City. The research method used in this study is a qualitative
research method.
The results of this thesis research are the efforts of the Medan Anti-Hoax
Gen Community in educating young people about politics and preventing hoax
information, namely by providing social media education and political education
through training. There are several activities in the training, including content
creation skills, creating non-hoax content and journalistic knowledge or
techniques, and national insight. The aim of this training is so that young people
(generation z) can avoid hoaxes and can increase young people's insight or
knowledge about politics.
