    Abstract
The copycat phenomenon can not only occur in urban areas but can also occur in sub-urban areas (suburbs) that already have an urban nature and access to the internet. This also happens among teenagers in Kenangan Baru Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, who also show characteristics of copycat behavior toward their idols in terms of appearance, lifestyle, way of speaking, and language used. The purpose of this study is to figure out the issue of teenage copycat behavior against Instagram idols in Kenangan Baru Village because they created their social identities. Fifteen teenagers became research informants for this qualitative, phenomenological study that used a methodological approach. The results of this research indicate that, to some extent copying the behavior of one's idols is a type of social behavior motivated by values, it is because teenagers believe that these role models stand for significant values like popularity, success, or the kind of life they desire. The consumption of idol-simulated photos on Instagram profiles is the source of this copycat behavior. However, the idol image that these users are copying is a part of hyperreality, which is a simulation that creates a new reality apart from everyday life. Because of this, rather than using accurate models of the people in their environment, teenagers are increasingly creating their social identities using digital representations that are dominated by aesthetics and falsehoods.
