Analysis of the Formation Pattern of the Pasaribu Family Political Dynasty in South Tapanuli Regency
Abstract
This research analyzes the pattern of formation of kinship politics in the Pasaribu
family in South Tapanuli Regency. This research also aims to find out how kinship
politics that occurs in South Tapanuli Regency maintains its electability so that its
power can survive. This research uses a qualitative approach by collecting data
through interviews and documentation, searching for data through websites,
jou rnals, articles, mass media and books. In this research, it was found that the
results of this kinship politics emerged due to utilizing their connections and
influence in traditional decisions and social activities, as well as through the
education and p rofessional experience of family members. Data analysis was
carried out using the concepts of kinship political theory, power theory and
clientelism theory. Kinship Politics in South Tapanuli Regency is that there is a
kinship relationship between one pol itical official and another political
official/candidate, as can be seen from the desire for power from Syahrul Pasaribu
to his biological niece, Dolly Parlindungan Pasaribu. In this research, the Pasaribu
family is a handful of people who have a strong in fluence in South Tapanuli
Regency. This can happen because the Pasaribu family has a strong educational
background and cultural traditions. The Pasaribu family is not only supported by
cultural and institutional factors, but also by their performance in pr oviding
concrete benefits to the local community, which supports their legitimacy and
desire for power.
