This research is motivated by the extinction of the mardekke-dekke tradition in the Batak community in Matiti Village. The purpose of this study is to raise awareness regarding the practice of the lost tradition and efforts that can be made to revive the implementation of the mardekke-dekke tradition. The study was conducted using a qualitative ethnographic method in describing the local community. This study used observation, in-depth interviews, and document reviews as data sources. The results of the study indicate that there are two factors causing the loss of the implementation of the mardekke-dekke tradition, namely social factors and natural factors. Social factors refer to relationships within the community and natural factors refer to the pond or tambok where the mardekke-dekke tradition is carried out. It is hoped that this study will increase our understanding of the practice of the mardekke-dekke tradition in Matiti Village and provide suggestions on efforts to conserve the mardekke-dekke tradition and further utilization of tambok in Matiti Village.
