Urban Forest Identification and Community Perception of Pematangsiantar City
Abstract
The existence and availability of Green Open Space (RTH) is a priority scale in improving the quality and condition of a beautiful, comfortable and clean environment. This study aims to determine the area of Green Open Space and the development of urban forests based on public perception. This study was conducted in October - December 2023 in the city of Pematangsiantar, North Sumatra Province. This type of research includes qualitative and quantitative research. Qualitative data to determine public perceptions of the development of the Pematangsiantar city forest using the Likert scale formula. Quantitative data is used to identify the area of RTH in the city of Pematangsiantar using Landsat 8 imagery with the NDVI method and the ideal area of the Pematangsiantar city forest using thegerakis method. The results of this study indicate that the need for RTH in the city of Pematangsiantar in 2023 is 487.14 ha, with the currently available RTH of 1,088.7 ha. The need for RTH in the city of Pematangsiantar is sufficient from the specified limit. The existence of oxygen consumers that are always increasing is a factor that needs to be considered in the development of RTH. Maintaining and preserving RTH can currently improve the quality of life of the community.
