dc.description.abstractThe objective of the research is to analyze the communication process, communication strategies and interpersonal communication barriers of parents in minimizing FOMO ni Z generation ni Medan Sunggal Sub-district. The research uses the communication theories such as the theory of interpersonal communication, the theory of self-disclosure, the theory of communication strategy, the theory of new media, the theory of social interaction, the theory of Z generation, and the theory of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). The data are gathered by conducting in-depth interview, observation, and documentation. The research uses qualitative research method with descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects are three key informants such as parents of 2 generation, four triangulation informants such as Z generation children, and psychologists. The result of the research suggests that the process of communication between parents and Zgeneration ni minimizing FOMO tends not to be optimal because because there is breakup in their communication. Almost all parents in this research stand aloof from their children because of their children's indifference; besides that, there is distance which separates them which makes their communication less intense. The strategy used by parents is to have open discussions by involving Z generation ni socializing with the neighbors. The obstacles faced by the parents ni minimizing FOMO ni Z generation ni Medan Sunggal Sub-district is the rejection and the reluctance because children's attitude and behavior tend ot be introverted toward their parents. Moreover, the parents' behavior ni spoiling the children has made the children obstinate, and the lack of transparency between parents and their children also causes obstacles.en_US
