Komunikasi Antarpribadi Erwin Siahaan di Parsadaan Pomparan Somba Debata Kota Medan dalam Pemilihan Legislatif Kota Medan 2019

Abstract

The objective of the research is to analyze interpersonal communication of the politician of PSD (Indonesian Solidarity Party), Erwin Siahaan, in the Persadaan Pomparan Somba Dibata (PPSD) of Medan in the election for legislative members of Medan in 2019. The research uses qualitative research methods. The research subject is Erwin Siahaan and the other three people involved in the in- depth interviews. The result suggests that Erwin Siahaan does interpersonal communication by applying a series of relation phases. He does not visit the people right away. There are some phases of initiation, exploration, and intensification. It seems that he has succeeded in choosing the correct communication style: open style. He is open in responding to anything about him. He is honest and frankly says that he is an online ojek driver and comes from the lower social class. His openness and honesty have significant value in implementing interpersonal communication. Its process, of course, has obstacles. One of them is a physical obstacle although he also faces a psychological one. It is because not all PPSD members of Medan can receive his messages because he is only an online ojek driver. Therefore, it is necessary to have the role of opinion leader to strengthen his messages.
