Framing Analysis of Analisa Medan Daily News on The Increase in Prices and Scarcity of Cooking Oil
Abstract
This thesis aims to analyze the framing of the Analisa Medan Daily in reporting on the issue of the increase and scarcity of cooking oil that occurred in late 2021 to mid-2022. This study uses a qualitative constructivist approach with Robert N. Entman's framing of news about the issue of the increase and scarcity of cooking oil. The researcher collected and selected the news, then conducted an in-depth interview with the Editorial Secretary of the Analisa Daily, Medan. Data were taken from the Analisa Daily news from January 19 to June 23, 2022 and interviews with the Editorial Secretary on June 20-21, 2022.
The results of the study show that there is construction in the news. Although not prominent and trying to be neutral, the Harian Analisa newspaper frames the news about how difficult people's lives are due to the increase in prices and the scarcity of cooking oil. The framing is intended to encourage the government to act to overcome the problem of prices and scarcity of cooking oil. The framing is also aimed at cooking oil entrepreneurs to care about the purchasing power and needs of the community. As a media located in North Sumatra, an area producing palm oil, the raw material for cooking oil, the Harian Analisa Medan tries as much as possible to provide space for many parties to provide opinions, views and thoughts without having to blame others.
Social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook and online news are developing rapidly and have a significant influence on the perspective and construction of journalists and editors in reporting news such as public complaints conveyed through social media.
