dc.description.abstract | This research aims to find out what opportunities and challenges the halal
food industry faces in Medan City and find the right strategy to help achieve
sustainable development goals (SDGs).
This research uses quantitative and qualitative approaches (mixed methods)
with SWOT data analysis techniques to identify the strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats faced by the halal food industry. Data were collected
through observations, in-depth interviews and questionnaires with halal food
industry businesses.
The results showed that the halal food industry in Medan City has
opportunities to achieve SDGs such as the growth in global food consumption
value, technological developments that can support the halal industry, halal food is
more attractive to consumers, the rise of campaigns regarding halal lifestyles in
society, and distribution channels in the domestic market are many and varied.
However, this study also found several challenges that must be overcome such as
market competition, strict halal certificate regulations and standards, the time gap
between answering halal market challenges and the speed of development of halal
market trends, halal assurance system supervision standards are not yet available,
and limited infrastructure and technology. Strategies for developing the halal food
industry in Medan City in achieving SDGs is, developing technology to improve
production efficiency and management of local raw materials, as well as reducing
the environmental impact of the production process, integrating production
practices in accordance with Sharia and strict hygienic standards to ensure safe
and halal products, educating the public about the benefits of halal food
consumption in accordance with health and sustainability values. | en_US |
