The academic achievement of prospective elementary school teacher students is one of the main indicators in assessing how prepared they are to become competent teachers. This achievement can be influenced by various factors, including internal factors such as intelligence and other psychological factors. One of the psychological factors is self-determination. Self-determination is a psychological construct that describes an individual's ability to act and make choices based on their own will, intentions, and desires in achieving their goals. This study aims to determine correlation between self-determination and academic achievement of prospective elementary school teacher students from University X in Medan City. This research uses a sample of 121 people with convenience sampling techniques and correlational quantitative method. The instruments used are the Indonesian version of Self-Determination Scale adapted by Muttaqin (2023) and the Cumulative Grade Point Average from the research subjects directly. The research data were analyzed using Pearson’s Product Moment correlation test. The results showed correlation value (r) of 0.627 with a significance level (p) <0.001. The study concluded that there is a significant and positive relationship between self-determination and the academic achievement of prospective elementary school teacher students.
