The Relationship Between Work Stress and Job Satisfaction of PT PLN (Persero) ULP Medan Timur Workers
Abstract
Work stress is a condition that arises from the interaction between people and their job and is characterized by change. Data from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in 2020 shows that as many as 828,000 workers were affected by work stress, depression or anxiety in 2019 to 2020. And for the average prevalence of work stress, depression and anxiety in industry is 1,579 cases per 100,000 workers. This study aims to determine the level of work stress and job satisfaction and the relationship between work stress and job satisfaction of PT PLN (Persero) ULP Medan Timur. The research was conducted using quantitative method with cross sectional approach. This research was conducted from August to September 2024. This study used cluster sampling technique with a total sample of 51 workers. The results of this study indicate that a total of 7 workers (13.7%) are classified as mild work stress, 38 workers (74.5%) are classified as moderate work stress and 6 workers (11.8%) are classified as high work stress. Based on the level of satisfaction, 9 workers (17.6%) are classified as mild job satisfaction, 29 workers (56.9%) are classified as moderate job satisfaction and 13 workers (25.5%) are classified as high job satisfaction. Based on Bivariate analysis, there is a relationship between work stress and job satisfaction of employees of PT PLN (Persero) ULP Medan Timur. Obtained p value = 0.016 (p value <0.05). It is recommended that workers implement various promotive and preventive efforts to prevent an increase in work stress by doing activities related to hobbies, sports, social to reduce work stress levels and conduct training for workers as part of developing workers' abilities.
