The current research is conducted at Universitas Prima Indonesia (UNPRI) Library to evaluate the
implementation and challenges faced regarding the reference services. The purpose of this study is to identify the
operational processes of reference services and address existing challenges. The methods employed include
literature study, observation, interviews, and documentation. Librarians are tasked to facilitate and understand the
information needs of users through effective communication to ensure correct understanding of the information
inquired. The main challenge in reference services at the UNPRI Library is the limited access to collections.
Although the reference service system is open and allows users to directly retrieve collections from the shelves,
the availability of reference collections does not yet cover all the users' informational needs, thus causing
difficulties for users in finding the information they require. To address this challenge, the library needs to
enhance its reference collections and expand access to digital information sources. In addition, continuous
training for librarians is necessary to improve their ability to understand and meet users' informational needs.
Overall, this study highlights the importance of collection development and the enhancement of librarian
competencies in improving reference services at UNPRI Library.
