Dental caries is a problem that is so common for some people in the world. Caries that is not treated immediately will progress to pulp disease or pulpitis. Pulp disease must be treated by devitalizing the pulp. The most common material to kill the pulp is arsenic trioxide which contains formaldehyde but the material is harmful to the body. The material to replace arsenic is mangosteen fruit which has contents such as tannins, xanthones, and others. This study aims to determine the toxic limit value contained in mangosteen peel extract as a pulp devitalization material seen in the kidney organs of Wistar rats. This study is a type of laboratory experimental research with a post-test only research design with controlled group design. The sample of this research is 75% mangosteen peel extract which is divided into three doses, namely doses of 250 mg/kg BW, 500 mg/kg BW and 1000 mg/kg BW and 30 male Wistar rats. The method of dosing to Wistar rats is by inserting the extract preparation using an injection syringe. The rats were then necropsied to take the kidney organs which will be tested histopathologically. The most toxic dose can be determined by looking at the dose group that has the most necrosis cells. Data analysis using Kruskal-Wallis test and followed by Mann-Whitney test. The test results stated that the 1000 mg/kg BW dose was the most necrosis and the most inflammation dose group. The three doses did not have significant differences in necrosis cells and inflammatory cells among the three doses. Mangosteen peel extract has the ability to kill the pulp nerve and accelerate the healing process in the dental pulp so it can be concluded that mangosteen peel extract is safe to be a pulp devitalization drug.en_US
