Strategies to Pass JLPT N3 Undergraduates Students in Japanese Literature Study Program Faculty of Cultural Sciences University of North Sumatra

The purpose of this study is to understand the learning strategies of students who
have passed the JLPT N3 exam, as well as to identify the challenges they face
during their exam preparation. In this research, Language Learning Theory,
Language Acquisition Theory, and Strategy Theory are used. Mixed method is
used in the research. Used by combining qualitative research using interview
methods and quantitative by distributing questionnaires. The results of this study
eveal the learning strategies of students, which are categorized into ten groups:
study method, study motivation, study duration, Japanese study duration, JLPT
N3 preparation duration, JLPT N3 question practice frequency, study time in a
day, making notes/summaries, progress evaluation, strengths in specific materials,
and the impact of the internship program on learning. In addition, this study also
identifies obstacles faced by students during the JLPT N3 exam preparation,
including difficulties in certain parts of the exam, limited adequate learning
resources, and external factors that can interfere with study time such as other
activities or activities outside of the campus.
