Abstract

The Relationship Between Pregnancy Age and Oral Hygiene on the Occurrence of Gingivitis in Pregnant Women at Sicanang Community Health Center The community health center is a primary healthcare facility responsible for public health in its working area. This study aims to determine the relationship between oral hygiene and pregnancy age in the first, second, and third trimesters concerning the occurrence of gingivitis in pregnant women at Sicanang Community Health Center. This research is a cross-sectional analytic study conducted on 119 pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria. Oral hygiene was assessed using debris and calculus indices, while gingivitis was examined using the Loe and Silness index. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate tests. The results showed an average oral hygiene score of 2.49 ± 0.69, with an average debris score of 1.75 ± 0.72 and a calculus score of 1.47 ± 0.70. No significant relationship was found between pregnancy age and oral hygiene. The highest percentage of oral hygiene was categorized as poor at 60.5%, while the severity of gingivitis was mostly mild at 38.7%, with an average score of 0.71 ± 0.32. A significant relationship was found between pregnancy age and the severity of gingivitis, and there is a significant correlation between oral hygiene and the severity of gingivitis. This study concludes that as pregnancy age increases, gingivitis severity worsens, and poorer oral hygiene correlates with more severe gingivitis.
