Manufacturing Construction Ceramic Based On Zeolite, Palm Shells, And Rice Shut
Abstract
The manufacture of construction ceramics based on zeolite, palm shells, and rice husks sifted to 100 mesh size has been carried out through the die pressing method. Variations of materials are 50 grams of zeolite, 0.10,20,30,40,50 grams of palm shells and rice husks with temperature variations of 800oC, 900oC, and 1000oC without holding time. The samples were characterized in the form of cylinders. The characterization tested were physical properties (density, porosity, mass loss, and volume loss), mechanical properties (compressive strength), morphology (SEM), element content (EDX), and crystal phase analysis (XRD). The optimum result was obtained at the composition of 50 grams of zeolite: 40 grams of palm shells: 10 grams of rice husks which were centrifuged at 800oC with the results of density = 1.10g, porosity = 5.30%, volume loss = 0.31%, mass loss = 7.27%, and compressive strength = 54.30 Pa. In addition, the results of surface morphology (SEM) showed that there were not many pores, the element content of the EDX results also had a dominant Si: 16.6 element. The results of the Crystal phase test using XRD showed that the highest intensity peak of ceramics was at 2θ = 26.72o with a triclinic crystal structure.
