This research aims to determine the concept of reincarnation as depicted in the Tomie manga and to explain how Japanese society believes in it. The theories used in this research are the Buddhist reincarnation theory. The research method used in this research is the descriptive qualitative method with a literature review collection technique. The results show that reincarnation depicted in this manga has aspects that aligns with Buddhist reincarnation teachings, that karma, motivations or desire, and the cycle of reincarnation that occurs continuously are the main keys for reincarnations to happen. In the Tomie manga, the continuity of Tomie’s rebirth cycle aligns with the reincarnation in Buddhism teachings. This emphasizes that karma determines a person’s destiny in the life cycle. The reincarnation portrayed in the Tomie manga provides an intriguing picture in modern Japanese literature. The results of this research reveal that manga as a popular Japanese media could be a platform for reincarnation portrayals of the Buddhist reincarnation aspects in Japanese culture.
