The increase in the number of elderly causes an increase in the number of illnesses, especially diseases of the periodontal tissue. The severity of periodontal disease will increase along with increases in cortisol levels. This type of research was carried out using an observational analytical method with a cross-sectional approach which aims to analyze the relationship between salivary cortisol levels and periodontal status in the elderly. The research subjects consisted of 80 elderly people who lived in the Binjai Elderly Social Services Technical Implementation Unit. The research subjects were examined for periodontal status, namely pocket depth, Papillary Bleeding Index (PBI), attachment loss, and analysis of salivary cortisol levels. Statistical analysis of the Pearson test showed significant results between salivary cortisol levels and attachment loss (p=0.046) and pocket depth (p=0.133). Statistical analysis of the Spearman test showed that there was an insignificant relationship between salivary cortisol levels and (PBI) (p=0.339). The conclusion of this study is that salivary cortisol levels have a significant relationship between cortisol levels and periodontal status, namely attachment loss, but there is no significant relationship between cortisol levels and pocket depth and gingival bleeding (PBI).en_US
