Abstract

Background. Exposure to smoking, both active and passive, during pregnancy has a negative impact on the health of pregnant women and the fetus. Pregnant women's knowledge and attitudes towards the dangers of smoking are very important to prevent pregnancy complications and improve the quality of health. Objective. To determine the level of knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women towards smoking during pregnancy at Prof. dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis north sumatra hospital. Methods. This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire which had been tested for validity and reliability. Results. All 66 respondents (100%) did not smoke. The level of knowledge of pregnant women regarding the dangers of smoking during pregnancy is the good category (100%), indicating a high understanding of health risks respondents’ attitudes were also positive, with the majority supporting efforts to prevent cigarette exposure during pregnancy. Conclusion. All pregnant women in this study had a good level of knowledge and positive attitudes towards the dangers of smoking during pregnancy. This emphasizes the importance of ongoing education to maintain awareness and prevent exposure to cigarettes, for the health of the mother and fetus.
